Beta Technologies Alia CTOL is targeting a range of around 250 nautical miles so this first trip for Loganair was a quick jaunt for the conventional take off and landing variant. Yes, Beta Technologies plans on certifying the CTOL version first although they are currently developing the eVTOL variant as well. As far as is known so far, Loganair has not made any orders for the Alia CTOL. However, they are evaluating its use case, hence the testing and operations over the next two weeks.

For Loganair, so far it appears they are looking to understand if the aircraft can be integrated into the fleet as a mail and urgent cargo delivery platform. The aircraft is not a huge platform but it is expected to be able to carry 5 passengers or 200 cu ft (5.7 m3) of cargo. Loganair has been looking at ways to help decarbonize their operations and have actively been investigating several options from different manufacturers across different sustainable platforms.

Loganair is currently evaluating the Alia CTOL but they have also been looking at the offering from Heart Aviation, ZeroAvia's hydrogen conversion setup but no firm orders have materialized from any of these interactions. “For regional airlines, the route to net zero must be practical, affordable, and operationally viable,” said Loganair CEO Luke Farajallah. “Electric aircraft have the potential to transform short-haul flying, protecting vital air links while significantly reducing carbon emissions. For Loganair, this reflects our practical approach to sustainability—testing credible solutions that can reduce emissions while protecting the essential regional connectivity our communities rely on.”
