Transport Canada Finally Approves Gulfstream G500; G600 In an article JF published at the end of January suggesting that the United States President threatened to prompt the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to decertify all Bombardier Global models that had previously obtained FAA certification. https://www.jetforums.net/threads/n...f-certificate-of-all-bombardier-globals.5207/ This was because the President was not pleased with the continued slow and sluggish stance to certifying recent products from American airframer Gulfstream. Even though the Gulfstream G500 and 600 were approved into service by the FAA in July 2018 and June 2019 respectively, these types still have not been approved by Transport Canada.
The latest Gulfstream models to be certified by the Federal Aviation Administration were the G700 and the G800 which were approved by the regulatory body in March 2024 and April 2025 respectively. Compare this to Transport Canada having not approved to the G500 and G600 models after the applications for certification had been pending for over 6 years and the G700 and G800 applications were made in 2024.
It would appear that after the threats from the United States that the message was clearly understood as Transport Canada approvals for the Gulfstream G500 and G600 were issued on the 15th of February, 2026. For many the contention might have been seen as competition between Gulfstream and Bombardier but it has really been a matter between Transport Canada, Gulfstream and cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration.
While the Gulfstream G500 and G600 were waiting on Transport Canada for Canadian approval, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved the Gulfstream pair for Steep Approach certification. This broadens the scope of where these models can operate even further. To earn the FAA and EASA certifications, both aircraft successfully demonstrated steep-approach capabilities with low-speed handling and short-field landings at London City Airport in England and Lugano Airport in Switzerland. The 300th Gulfstream G500 and G600 model was delivered towards the end of 2024. ***
